In 2008/9, local school leavers working full-time were paid on average £165.70 a week before tax.

The UK Minimum Wage from October 2009:
16 to 17 year olds (and above school leaving age) is £3.57 an hour
18 to 21 year olds is £4.83 an hour
22 year olds and over is £5.80 an hour

Apprentices under 19 and apprentices aged 19 or over and in the first year of an apprenticeship are not automatically entitled to the national minimum wage.
